La Versiliana was born as noble estate of the Marquis Ginori Lisci who built the great central villa. Today the ground around the house is placed in a public park in which are organized cultural events and fun activities for kids.
The pine forest surrounding Versiliana is also known for hosting the twentieth century italian poet and writer Gabriele D’Annunzio, who, no doubt inspired by his walks among the many pine trees that characterize the park, here composed “The rain in the pine forest.”
Originally the trees were cultivated to extract timber and pine nuts, inside the villa was in fact a factory where the cones were processed to obtain the pine nuts. Today the former residence Ginori is home the whole year of photo exhibitions, evocative art exhibitions and cultural tours.
Art and culture dominate both the interior and the exterior of the complex. In the park are held many appointments of il “Caffè della Versiliana”, on these occasions people may encounter the greatest contemporary figures of science, politics and literature. The idea is good for an alternative hot summer afternoon enjoying the shade of the pines so dear to D’Annunzio and knowing closely some of the most brilliant personalities of our time.
Even children can live rich and creative experiences thanks to the activities of the Versiliana dei Piccoli which organizes art workshops, storytelling tales of fable and educational courses for carefree but educational afternoons.
Centerpiece of the park is the theater that comes alive each summer in the Versiliana Festival. The manifestation includes a full calendar of evening events related to dance, music and theater, this are unmissable dates for nights full of emotions.
